Discovery Semiconductors, a leading supplier and innovator of optical receivers, manufactures eleven different balanced receivers to meet every potential application. Discovery introduced the first 10G balanced receiver in year 2000 and shortly after they brought to the marketplace its first 40G balanced receiver.
Discovery's high power, push-pull pair balanced detectors span a frequency range of DC to 40GHz with better than 30 dB common mode rejection ratios. The 700 series is essential for RIN measurement, LIDAR, and laser characterization applications. In addition, the 700 series is available with an integrated transimpedance amplifier (TIA) option. Discovery's "New Era of Lab Buddy" has expanded to include a balanced HLPD® Lab Buddy which offers a remote controlled firmware and software package.
Discovery Semiconductors' 400 series consist of balanced receivers with differential amplifiers for digital communication applications. The DSC-R405 is considered Discovery's workhorse, it has been commercially available for over ten years. Discovery's newest addition, the DSC-R412, features programmable linear gain and bandwidth both in manual or automatic gain control modes. "The DSC-R412 complements our existing family of balanced receivers by offering both high gain and linear response up to 20GHz. In addition, its gain and bandwidth control features enable performance optimization for multiple applications" comments Jim Rue, Discovery's Manager of High Speed Receivers.
Discovery's Integrated Balanced Receivers are designed to power the next generation DPSK/DQPSK and Coherent applications in multiple small footprint packaging options. "All Discovery's modules, including all eleven balanced receivers, are available in Lab Buddy instrumentation for convenient and effortless laboratory use" according to Applications Specialist, Roy Howard.
