Discovery Semiconductors has boosted to 475 V/W (at 1550 nm) the conversion gain of their low-noise PIN+TIA optical receiver, the model R402HR (for High Responsivity). This fiberoptic pigtailed component serves the standard OC-192/STM-64 telecommunications market with sensitivity of -20 dBm and bandwidth of 30 kHz to 8 GHz. Featuring low ripple, low group delay and low electrical return loss, the device provides designers of telecommunications systems with the signal level needed for driving filter, AGC or limiting amp stages. With a circuit board footprint of only 13 x 18 mm, it saves considerable space over discrete photodiode and amplifier models. The company's model R402 offers the same features, while extending the bandwidth to 11 GHz for best group delay, at the conversion gain of 350 V/W. Delivery is with the customer's choice of optical input connector and a type K coaxial RF output.
