Discovery Semiconductors Expands 40G Receiver Product Line

Ewing, NJ - February 18, 2008

Discovery Semiconductors, Inc. has introduced new product variants to its 40 Gb/s photodiode and receiver line to address several modulation formats (ASK, DPSK and DQPSK). The new products are offered with GPPO style differential RF outputs and utilize Discovery’s standard high reliability InGaAs photodiode chip along with fully qualified module packaging. Several receiver configurations are offered including single, balanced, and dual detection schemes, both with and without transimpedance amplification. The company’s high-power handling InGaAs photodiode results in 40G error-free performance up to +13dBm optical input power and can directly drive standard CDR modules. Mr. Jim Rue, DSC’s high speed receiver manager comments, “The addition of the differential GPPO RF outputs enables reception of all pre-amplified and unamplified 40G modulation formats in a compact receiver package which easily interfaces to commercial CDR / DEMUX modules. At the same time differential operation allows better noise performance, easier threshold adjustment, and lower power consumption.”

Mr. Abhay Joshi, President/CEO of Discovery Semiconductors, added, “As 40G moves from high end lab niche to mass deployment, our customers were requesting these upgrades. I am pleased that we are offering multiple solutions to our customer’s 40G needs.”  Mr. Joshi continued, “Our photodiodes are highly linear with a third order intercept point as high as 50 dBm. Thus, these receivers are highly desirable for both digital and analog transmissions.”
